Sunset 雜誌是 1898 年創刊的一份雜誌。早期以吸引民眾移民到西海岸，介紹西海岸生活形式為主的雜誌。二次大戰後，西海岸的蓬勃發展，讓雜誌本身成為獨特的西海岸悠閒風情，享受戶外陽光生活的代表刊物，同時也透過照片和訪談，紀錄那個時期的西海岸文化的各種面向。一度發行量和影響力接近今日的 浮華世界 Vanity Fair 或者 滾石雜誌 Rolling Stone。

1990年時代雜誌公司接收該雜誌，除建物資產以外，也包含所有的過去的鉅細靡遺，細心歸檔分類的好幾個房間的檔案櫃在內。其中包含各式的照片和底片，例如出名攝影師 Ansel Adams 的作品以及800本以上的初版圖書等。然而從 2014 年開始，銷售量及獲利能力下降之後，公司決定把編輯部的房地產出售，搬到比較小的辦公空間。由於空間不足，限期把整批的檔案資料銷毀以利房地產的清理。

雜誌的編輯聯絡史丹佛大學圖書館的文物保藏專員，展開文物搶救大作戰，並取得時代雜誌的同意，把檔案捐贈給史大圖書館。今天，時代雜誌公司已經不再存在，但是 Sunset 的檔案櫃的內容，佔據圖書館總長約53公尺的書架空間，繼續為西岸的歷史做著無言的見證。
